History

The Mekane Rama Saint Gabriel is an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian Church. The church was founded in 1986 by small group of Ethiopian immigrants. Most of them were in their 20s and did not have the experience and skill required to establish and run a church, but they had the faith and religious strength they were taught from their parents. Their first meeting place was a coffee shop. They were just sharing some ideas and decided to meet on Sundays at regular time and place. They did not have the Holy Scripture books or other supplies but they had a dream.  1996 was a turning point and it was a time when more diverse Ethiopian immigrants arrived. More people better experienced and financial strength ignited an idea of acquiring their own place of worship.   After several years of hard work and unified effort a church building was purchased in 2004. The main sanctuary has the capacity of 450 people and we have additional hall for functions and 16 class rooms. Regular Sunday worship, bible study, children religious and cultural education are some of main services we provide.  Our church is open to all and we strive to meet group and individual needs.  We mainly teach love and compassion among all human race and we strictly follow the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ who gave his life on the cross. By doing that he showed how much he loves us and he taught us to love one another.
